From the President
It was a steel gray December day when I got the call to serve. Standing on the deck of the Jeremiah O’Brien, Diane LeBow asked me to do what no patriot on this Liberty Ship had been asked to do, prior to that memorable day.
And with a twist of the arm, I accepted. I became President of the Bay Area Travel Writers. Much like a sailor going to sea, I signed on for a tour at the helm of the BATW.
Now, four years later, I’ll turn over the wheel to a new President – someone yet to be named. It’s an exciting time for our organization…fresh blood, new ideas and a leader who can navigate the murky waters of making a profit in travel journalism.
I want to thank my Board and all the members who’ve pitched in to help run our organization these last four years. We’ve accomplished a great deal.
We’ve updated and ratified a new set of bylaws, implemented a credentialing system, updated our handbook, ramped up our monthly meetings and brought in prestigious new Associate partners.
Going forward, the Board has voted to create the position of Executive Director, freeing up the President to pursue more creative endeavors.
I have agreed to accept this post and will take over as Executive Director in January. I’m reporting for duty once again…but this time in the engine room, keeping the machinery running.
Anchors away, and here’s to an adventurous 2015!
